Two new 6-a-side community football initiatives will kick off at the K-Park Training Facility later this month and organisers are appealing for local teams to register
ahead of the big kick-off.
The inaugural 14-week season will run every Sunday between 6-8pm on the fantastic 3G Astroturf pitch while there will also be a separate Thursday season running between 8 - 10 pm every week. There is space available for up to sixteen teams to take part on both nights with quite a number of teams already registered.
Community Football Manager, Ben Wright, said, "I will be writing weekly match reports with goalscorers names and will also be including comments from team captains which will help to give a really professional feel to proceedings. The main thing is that local teams and players can come out and enjoy the events each week without worrying about any hassle or organisation as we will take care of everything, including organising referees. Robert Devlin, who is a well respected local SFA official, will be helping to arrange match referees and I am delighted that he has agreed to be involved."
The initiative will be affiliated through the Scottish Amateur FA with qualified referees officiating all matches which last 40 minutes, enough time to work up a good sweat. There is no entry or registration fee and teams are able to use flexible squads throughout the season. It is open to everyone in the local community and teams can be made up from existing clubs, groups of work colleagues or just friends from the pub.
Top quality individual trophies will be given to winners and runners-up whilst there is also a top goalscorer award.
Anyone interested in taking part should contact Ben on 07583 578334 or visit the website www.communityfootball.net to register online.
