Craig Roy has been found guilty of murdering East Kilbride schoolboy Jack Frew and now faces a mandatory life sentence.
Roy had admitted stabbing the schoolboy 20 times and slitting his throat but denied murder. The jury rejected claims that he suffered from a personality disorder.
Jack's family said after the verdict that Jack's name had been tarnished by "wicked words and lies".
The jury took merely an hour and a half to return with an unanimous verdict.
Roy will appear at Edinburgh's High Court on 1st March where he will be sentenced to life imprisonment. The judge will then decide how long he will need to serve before he can get parole.
Jack's family said "The verdict could have been none other than murder, because that's what it was. Cold, calculating and planned murder. Not only has Jack had his life snatched from him, but his good name has been tarnished by wicked words and lies which were unfounded.
"The family can only take comfort from the fact that those who knew Jack know and remember what he was really like."
The area procurator fiscal for Lanarkshire said the murder showed "the devastating consequences that can follow from carrying a knife... Today's conviction should act as a warning to anyone thinking of leaving home with a knife or using a knife that prosecutors, working together with the police, will ensure that those people are caught, prosecuted and brought to justice.
"Our thoughts remain with the family of Jack Frew at this time."
