On Saturday Cllrs Archie Buchanan and Douglas Edwards launched the Independence Referendum consultation in East Kilbride South at the Greenhills Community Hall and handed out the booklet Your Scotland Your Future, explaining different aspects of Independence.
Archie said "We are embarking on a process that will allow the people of East Kilbride South and the rest of Scotland to have all the information they will need to make the most important decision Scotland has made for 300 years."
Archie and Douglas believe that Independence will mean that decisions about what happens in Scotland and for Scotland are taken by the people who care most about Scotland – that is the people living, working and bringing up their families in Scotland – no one else can do a better job.
They believe that Scotland’s home rule journey is clearly part of a bigger international trend. The say "After all, independence is what we seek as individuals – whether it is moving out of our parents’ home in our teens or early twenties or buying our first car. It is the natural state for people and nations around the world. Not being independent is the exception.
"In the next two years the people of East Kilbride and Scotland will be given the information to make the decision and have the opportunity to re-join the international community of nations and take their seat at the “big” table."
If you would like a copy of the booklet Your Scotland Your Future, contact either Archie or Douglas and they will have a copy delivered to you, or pick one up at the Greenhills Community hall from Archie any Saturday morning.
