EK Eagles Roller Hockey Report

EK Eagles Roller HockeyWith the season drawing to a close, only one of the Eagles sides was in action over the weekend. The under 12s travelled to Bo'ness to take on the Dundee Ducks, and put in a fine performance although eventually succumbed to a 10-7 defeat.

All the squad put in a great showing, with this ranking as one of their best performances of the season, matching league leaders almost goal for goal, and in the process showing just how far they have progressed in the last eighteen months.

Hockey Club says farewell to legend

Hockey Club says farewell to legendPlayers past and present of EK/Avondale Hockey Club turned up in force on Saturday to take part in a specially arranged testimonial match for retiring club stalwart, Chris Rafferty.

Forced by injury into premature retirement, the game was an opportunity for present and former team members, as well as supporters, to show their appreciation for all Chris's effort and commitment over a 30 year career.

EK/Avondale Hockey - 27th April

With the 2nd XI having finished their league campaign, EK/Avondale Hockey Club 1sts were able to call upon a number of that side to bolster their own depleted numbers at home to Glasgow University on Saturday.

The revamped homesters opened brightly against the students but were dealt a major blow when stalwart defender Colin Ballantyne was forced off, and taken up to Hairmyres A&E after taking a ball to the face. The revamped back line held firm against the visitors, with keeper Martin Jackson rarely troubled. It was something of a surprise when the students took the lead midway through the half.

EK finished their league season in third place, with a comprehensive victory over fourth placed Glasgow Accies.  Following a Robbie Greenfield penalty in the first minute, however, it did not look as if EK would be runaway victors.

EK Eagles Roller Hockey

EK Roller HockeyOnce again all four sides from EK Eagles Roller Hockey club were in action on Sunday against the Glenrothes Grizzlies, but all fell to defeat, despite some tremendously close and exciting games.

The under 10s were on first and produced an excellent showing and came desperately close to snatching a win. Skipper Murray Brown put them ahead early on before the visitors went ahead. Liam Kenny, Oden Barber and Ruari Brown worked hard throughout, and Murray Brown later grabbed a second, but the Eagles fell to a 2-4 defeat. Conor Gilroy was Player of the Match.

EK Avondale 2nds Vs Glasgow University

EK Avondale Vs Glasgow UniversityEK Avondale 2nds wound up their league campaign on Saturday with a home defeat at the hands of Glasgow University.

Having beaten the students in their previous game, EK were confident of a repeat performance but were without at least four regulars, whilst the University side bore absolutely no similarity from that match.

EK secure another bonus point win with five tries

Summary – EK recovered from a poor first half, down 7-6 at turn, to record a 37-12 win, securing the maximum five league points with a try bonus. Veteran Andy MacDonald was Man of the Match.

The final score may look flattering but the EK support was very worried at half time, having watched a physical but limited Allan Glens side secure a lead through the half’s only try, converted.
