Lanarkshire Chamber of CommerceLanarkshire Chamber of Commerce

Lanarkshire Chamber of Commerce was formed in 2003 following a major re-organisation of the Chamber of Commerce movement in Lanarkshire. By bringing the smaller local Chambers in Clyde Vale, East Kilbride, Hamilton and Motherwell together with the Cambuslang and Rutherglen Business Network we created a much stronger Chamber of Commerce, one which can lobby  Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire, and North and South Lanarkshire Councils on issues of particular concern to the business community in the area.

The biggest success of the new Chamber has been in the development of a wide range of events for the members which not only inform, educate and entertain but also provide significantly greater opportunities for businesses across Lanarkshire to network with one another and (hopefully) trade with one another.

Lanarkshire Chamber of Commerce is also very keen to encourage companies in the area to export. With this objective in mind we frequently encourage members to meet delegations from Chambers visiting Scotland and in October 2004 we ourselves were involved in a trade mission to China. In 2006 our links with China grew stronger when a high powered delegation visited Scotland to explore investment opportunities with Lanarkshire businesses. We were grateful to First Minister, Jack McConnell MSP for hosting a reception for our Chinese visitors at Bute House in Edinburgh.

Through our links with the Scottish Chambers of Commerce our members are kept up to date with international trade issues and about the many opportunities to go on Trade Missions organised through the Chamber Network. Details of the latest international trade news can be found in the international trade section of the SCC Website. We also offer a full Certificate of Origin Service under licence from the British Chambers of Commerce and BERR.

The Chamber is managed by its Chief Executive and his team on behalf of the Board of Directors, who are all elected by the members.  So the organisation is truly democratic and highly responsive to members' needs.

The Chamber has four breakfast clubs in Bothwell, Hamilton, Motherwell and East Kilbride which are affiliated to the Chamber. The Hamilton and Motherwell clubs meet on a Tuesday morning and the East Kilbride group meet on Wednesdays. Through these groups some 80 Chamber members network on a weekly basis and pick up leads for new business from fellow club members.

To find out more about the Chamber and the wide range of benefits it provides for businesses in Lanarkshire please look at our website www.lanarkshirechamber.org or contact the Chamber's Chief Executive, Douglas Millar who will be happy to talk you through the benefits of membership.
