People and companies are becoming increasingly aware of their “green” credentials lately. The media is full of stories about global warming and other attacks our planet is coming under. People are thinking more and more about being “green” and how they can do their bit to save the planet. An East Kilbride businesswoman is blazing a trail in the green cleaning industry.
Helen Tennant has been involved in the green cleaning industry for over 20 years and owns Green Clean Health & Safety, a cleaning company. She said “I have been employed in various sectors throughout my working career, from telesales in call centres, office administration at management level, sales administration at management level, sales executive and then ultimately started my own business. I decided that I should be prepared for the rigours of running a business and signed up for free start up business courses that the government had made available to small companies. I studied overseas trade, contract law, accounts, and then when I saw a cleaning science course advertised I decided that was what I should do. Interesting subjects I learned on the course included the implementation of the use of dangerous cleaning chemicals and associated hazards. This knowledge reinforced my concerns that I should use only neutral cleaning products with a PH7 – the softest cleaning products available at that time. I was still doing my utmost to establish the use of green cleaning products to keep my cleaners and my clients’ investment safe, but unfortunately the green cleaning products of their time did not have the cleaning power to clean effectively.
